Feel the Love at Agape Pastries & Tartines

They always say that anything that is made with love grows. And one living proof of that is Agape Pastries & Tartines, a family-owned French restaurant located at Congressional Avenue, Quezon City. This restaurant opened a year ago, but it has continued to grow and flourish because of the strong foundation that it was built in, that is, love.

The story on how this restaurant was conceptualized was really emotional, yet inspirational. The owner of the restaurant, Ms. Jean Uvero, had a daughter who needed a kidney transplant. During the time they were in New York for the surgery, they would visit this small cafe in Manhattan. To reminisce that journey and the love that help them get through that, they decided to come up with Agape - a restaurant that was quite similar with that restaurant they used to visit all the time.

Upon entering Agape, there's something to it that makes you feel relaxed. The place will make you feel like you are at the comforts of your home. The rustic feel that the interior gives makes you want to stay for a long time and then come back thereafter. Just in case you are looking for a place to study, they allow guests to do that and I think they have produced two board exam passers already. Otherwise, this place is perfect to visit with your family during the weekends for that regular Sunday lunch or dinner or even for romantic dates or for simply hanging out with your friends.

Even the dishes at Agape are founded on love. Most the dishes from their menu are their family's own recipes. Basically, they offer French dishes, mostly of pastries and tartines. If you haven't heard of Tartines yet, these are simply French open-faced sandwich. They also offer pastas and entrees that are hearty and wholesome. Everything is made with fresh ingredients!

During our visit at Agape a few weeks back, here are the awesome dishes that we were able to try:

Salads and Appetizers

Green Salad with Pears - P150
Spicy Prawn and Green Papaya Salad
Pita Bread with Spinach Dip

Most of the salads you'll find at Agape are ones with light dressings. I actually like it better that way so that you'll get to taste the ingredients better. Between the two that we tried, I like the Green Salad with Pears more. It has a fresh taste and pears adds to the whole experience by giving the salad a crunch.  By the way, this Spinach dip in the Pita Bread with Spinach Dip dish was really addicting! Even though the Pita bread was already gone, we still kept on eating the dip.

Panizza

Margherita Panizza - P290
Dan McCune Panizza - P375
Three Cheese and Herbs Panizza - P370
Gamberi Panizza - P340

Sticking to its wholesome and hearty menu, Agape offers a healthy version of your regular pizza - panizza - that would surely satisfy your cravings. We were able to try out 4 of their panizzas and I could say that each has a distinct flavor. What makes them all similar is that they are all made with the freshest ingredients. My favorite would definitely be the Three Cheese and Herbs Panizza because I personally like cheese pizzas. I also like the Dan McCune Panizza because of its flavorful toppings.

Tartines

Smoked Salmon BLT Tartines - P395
Beer Battered Fish Tartines - P250

It was my first time to encounter tartines and I was not definitely disappointed. These open-faced sandwiches are very filling and sumptuous. You could definitely see how generous the servings are. It would be adequate for 2 to 3 persons. The Beer Battered Fish tartines is my personal favorite! The bread is soft, but still has a crunch to it and the crispy fish goes well with the sauce. If you want a healthier choice though, you may try out the Smoked Salmon BLT.

Pasta

Sardines in Oil - P200
Maria Gambasetti - P250

Pasta at Agape makes you feel like you are home. So I wasn't surprised to find out that these are actually tried and tested family recipes. The Sardines in Oil pasta was very tasty. The pasta itself was properly cooked and the flavors are rich. The Maria Gambasetti, on the other hand, has a milder flavor but the chorizo in it makes it flavorful.

Seared Salmon in Pineapple Salsa

This special entree was one of their dishes during their Valentine's special. I hope they offer this all year round!

Spinach and Mango Remedy - P120

One of the unique items that can be found at Agape's menu is their Remedies. These are juicing of various ingredients that are known for nutritional and alternative treatment properties. Some of their amazing combinations are Zucchini-Cucumber-Mango, Brocolli-Carrots-Apple, Carrots-Parsley-Banana, among others. I had the Spinach and Mango drink and it was very refreshing!

Dessert

Bon-Bon - P25, Chocolava Tart - P50, Creme Brulee Tart -P40

Lastly, we had their freshly made desserts. We were served Bon-bons, Chocolava Tart, and Creme Brulee Tart. My favorite was without a doubt the Creme Brulee Tart! It was heavenly and it melts in your mouth. By the way, Agape also sell various pastries which are guaranteed fresh and delicious.
