Staying at home for almost 24/7 had me quite obsessed with home decor. We recently had our home renovated so working with a blank canvas is definitely exciting. While furniture is already in place, I am still on a lookout for other details that would complete the look I am going for. I already have noted some local Instagram shops that I wanted to get frames from, so I was delighted when Photowall contacted me for a collaboration.

Koconae Coconut Oil Hair Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Ever since I had my hair colored ash brown, I've been on the look out for hair products that would help me maintain the color. While there are tons of products that are especially made for colored hair, I had a hard time looking for one that is affordable, yet effective. During my search for "the one", I was actually able to try out several hair products that worked well for me so I alternate them and one of them is Koconae.

Koconae Coconut Oil Hair Shampoo and Conditioner

They currently offer tons of products that are made up of coconut oil such as facial care, hair care, skin care, and even products for children. Liese Creamy Bubble Color in Rose Tea Brown Review

My favorite Liese Creamy Bubble Color shade would definitely be Rose Tea Brown - a choice from their Warm Brown series. I have probably consumed 6 to 8 boxes of it in the past two years. I actually discovered Liese in BeautyMNL. At first I was hesitant to buy it because I've never tried bubble hair color before and there weren't much review of the product online. But when I started using it, it instantly became my go-to DIY hair coloring product.

Liese Creamy Bubble Color in Rose Tea Brown

What it claims:

Creamy bubble color for a rich and long lasting color. Easy to apply. No drip bubble formula.

Liese Creamy Bubble Color in Milk Tea Brown Review

Ever since I discovered Liese, it has been my go-to product when it comes to DIY hair coloring. I find it convenient and easy to use, plus it's available in BeautyMNL so I can just purchase online (especially since I barely have the time to go to the mall to buy). Liese used to be sold by online shops only, but I think they started to be available at Watsons since around two years ago.

Liese Creamy Bubble Color Milk Tea Brown

Liese offers numerous shades but this time I'll be doing a review of the Milk Tea Brown shade. As far as I know, it's the lightest shade in their Natural Brown series. It's not really my favorite shade, but I wanna share how my hair turned out after using the product.

Ash Hair Dreams Achieved at Retro Salon Fairview

I've always wanted to have legit ash hair, not exactly gray or silver hair but that light brown hair with an ash shade. I find it just so hard to achieve that, first, because black hair that's been bleached tends to have orange or yellow undertones that makes it look brassy and second, because you can only get ash hair when done professionally.

Loreal Majirel ash shades

When I was invited to Retro Salon in Fairview a few weeks back, I was only expecting to take a peek at the salon for a feature. Little did I know that I would get my dream hair color that exact day.

I am no pro when it comes to deciding on what shade would perfectly suit me so I was thankful that their senior stylist, Ms. Rose, had something solid in mind. I would actually settle with ash brown hair but she thinks it would look better it I get highlights. My only request was that I hope the latter would be subtle.

Before

The first part of the entire process was foil highlighting. They manually (and tediously) separated small portions of hair and placed developer on it. They wrapped it in aluminum foil to make sure that it won't affect the rest of my hair because it would surely make the hair much lighter. It was set for 15 minutes before heading to the second step.

Foil highlighting

While waiting for the highlights to become as light as the intended it to be, they applied ash hair dye to the rest of my hair. This makes the whole process a lot faster since it's like hitting two birds with one stone (highlights and hair color at the same time) . They didn't added hair color to my roots yet though because this part tends to lighten the fastest. They used Loreal Majirel for my hair color. I have super long hair so it was quite a work to apply the products on my hair. At this point, there were three of them that needs to work on my hair. They have quite a number of stylists and staff so when such situation happens, they have the ample number of people to work on their clients even on a busy day.

Hair coloring in between

After 20 minutes, they applied the rest of the hair color at my roots. I suggest you allot ample time if you want to have highlights and treatment made because it's gonna take a while. While waiting, you may make use of their magazines or just engage in a conversation with your stylist. They're super friendly!

After finishing up the roots

When the alarm went off, I was taken to the shampoo area to have everything rinsed. I have to be honest but I was quite shocked when I saw the bleached strands of hair that was supposed to be my highlights. I thought that was the end of it. But after they rinsed my hair, they applied gray hair color to my hair to give the highlights that ash tone.

Hair treatment

Although not really part of the hair coloring process, I had my hair treated. I know it's an additional expense but if you want to keep on coloring and dyeing your hair, this is a good investment. Coloring puts so much toll on the hair that it becomes brittle and dry. With treatments, you can repair your hair to keep it healthy and shiny.

Final result

After another batch of rinsing, I had my hair dried and curled. When I saw my newly colored hair (even before I had my temporary waves), I was so in love! I wasn't sure how ash would look on me or how highlights would look on me, but both turned out awesome. Ms. Rose definitely know what she's doing here. I've been getting lots of compliments on my hair.

After curling

When I got my curls thereafter, I wished they were permanent! The highlights stand out well with wavy hair. I like it also when I put my hair up and the highlights would peek on the sides. It's quite eye catching, but in a good way. By the way, my hair didn't dry up after the process. My hair remained straight and soft. I just use purple/non-sulfate shampoo and conditioner to maintain the ash shade.

Price at Retro Salon varies depending on hair length. Prices start at P1550 and up for permanent Loreal hair color and P1050 and up for foil highlighting. If you have extremely long hair (like me) or thick hair, expect the price to be a tad different from the above mentioned figures. You can have your hair assessed before undergoing any procedure. And the figures that they will state during assessment is the final price so you won't get surprised after.

You may visit Retro Salon Fairview at Angelenix House, Commonwealth Corner Camaro Street, Novaliches, Quezon City. You may call them at (02)9354436 or (0917)1460289 for more inquiries and to set an appointment. Don't forget to check out their Facebook page at https://facebook.com/MetroSalonFairview.

Natural Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel Review

My aloe vera obsession just won't stop! After trying out The Face Shop's Jeju Aloe Soothing Gel, I got myself several tubs of Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel during my recent Althea Korea shopping experience. I actually wanted to try out this one when I first got acquainted with Althea (earlier this year) but I was already eyeing a different kind of day moisturizer on my second haul. Nevertheless, I decided to stick with aloe gels because they've worked out well for me.

Natural Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel

As I have previously mentioned, I am not really particular with the brand of the product that I am using and I am open to experimenting and trying out new products when it comes to skincare and makeup. I have always wanted to try out this product because I think this one's Nature Republic's bestseller. And I am curious if it could live up to the hype. Anyway, here are some of the details about this product from Althea Korea's website:

Fashion21 Auto Eyeliner Pen Review

Local brands are really close to my heart. Not only are they affordable and easy to find, they surprisingly have great quality. I know I tend to underestimate them, but local products are definitely at par with their imported counterparts. When it comes to cosmetics, I love drugstore/department store brands! Since they’re so affordable, you won’t regret testing out a new product in the market even if doesn’t turn out well. I believe cosmetics and skin care are kind of a hit or miss thing. You just keep on trying out new products until you find the one that’s perfect for you.

Fashion21 Auto Eyebrow Pen

Speaking of trying out cosmetics, I was able to get a hold of the latest products from Fashion21. If you haven’t heard of Fashion21 yet (which I highly doubt), it is a local brand offering budget-friendly and quality cosmetics. You could literally find them in every department store! Anyway, I was able to try out Fashion21's Auto Eyebrow Pen lately. I am not a pro when it comes to doing eyebrow makeup and I am far from #kilaygoals, but this product was really easy to use for a makeup rookie like me.

As regards the packaging, I was definitely impressed! Honestly, Fashion21’s products used to have tacky packaging and I am glad that they were able to improve their products’ packaging. The pen is a black matte one with the name of the product printed on it. It is very lightweight and the product can be dispensed with by retracting the pen. I actually tried opening the pen to its max and it contains more or less two inches of eyeliner.

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam Review

One of the items that I got from Althea Korea's beta testing here in the Philippines was this product. I was looking for a facial wash for daily use then to add to my shopping bag. I would have gotten the Aloe Cleansing Foam from Nature Republic if it weren't the whitening/brightening phase I was in. I decided to get this one as it was the cheapest brightening cleansing foam at the website.

Zaful Swimwear Haul and Review

If there is anything Zaful is known for, it is their wide collection of swimsuits and other beach wear. Fret not because their swimmies are extremely affordable. Anyway, I was offered by Zaful to review several items of my choice. I bet you couldn't imagine how thrilled I was as you all know I am a certified beach and swimwear addict (check Instagram for proof!) Anyway, here's my lovely haul!

First up is a red halter bikini with scallop design (US$11.17). I fell in love with this one upon seeing it in their website. It's something that perfectly suits me - not too revealing and has a unique design. This one definitely did not disappoint me. I got a small and it fits me okay. I should have gone one size up though because I gained some weight lol. The bottom's kind of tight on me but I intend to lose weight anyway. The top was adorable! It does not have underwires, but it has pads. I can't wait to wear this one on my next beach trip!

Prettiest bikini ever!!!

Dresslink Top and Swimwear Haul + Review

Remember my Dresslink wish list which I posted a few weeks ago? Dresslink just made my dreams come true by sending me each and every item on that list. I know that you're all looking forward to outfit posts but I'd rather review everything first so you could decide whether or not to buy at Dresslink. 🙂

What I love most about Dresslink is their extremely cheap prices. Their clothes go as low as $2 and up depending on the item you would get. Based on my previous shopping experience with similar sites, there's a hit or miss chance when it comes to shopping with them. It's like taking a risk because sometimes the products are great (perfect fit and material), sometimes so-so (like wrong sizes, or poor quality). But no one's complaining cause more often than not they are actually okay!

Anywayyyyy, here's my small haul! The first thing I got was a Blue Printed Off Shoulder Top (US$ 3.56). This one's my favorite among all of the items that I got. It is lightweight and perfect for summer. The fabric's breathable. I was worried that it would be too cropped. This one has a perfect length and not too short. The garter for the shoulders looks like it would loosen up after a few used but that's something you can remedy. I got a large (Asian medium size), but it perfectly fits my small frame lol.

Love the print!
Garter doesn't look sturdy, but that's no biggie for me

Another item that I got was a Black off shoulder Top (now US$3.33, but I got it on sale for US$2.64). I am a huge fan of off shoulder tops and this one did not disappoint me! It has a nice flattering fit.The fabric's stretchable but goes thin (yet opaque and looks quite shiny) when stretched. I would order one size up if they had sizes but this one comes in only one size. This one's for those who are accustomed to wearing small or extra small clothes.

The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter Review

When I was in high school and after my Lip Smackers addiction, I got introduced to The Body Shop's Born Lippy Pot Lip Balm in Strawberry. Since makeup's not allowed at school then, they're kind of the only "makeup" (i.e. as a lip gloss) that I could wear. My Born Lippy days may be over but I'm definitely not over The Body Shop products cause I recently added their Strawberry Lip Butter to my daily skin care routine.

The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter

I got a Strawberry Lip Butter as a Christmas gift last December and I totally forgot about it until last summer break. I'm so glad that I was able to remember about it because it's turned out to be my current favorite lip product!

SKINFOOD Salmon Brightening Eye Cream Review

The search for the most affordable yet effective eye cream never stopped for me. After trying out Natural Looks Eye Gel, I realized that it's perfect for day use (to help soothe and cool my undereyes especially after a sleepless night). Thus, I researched for a moisturizing and whitening eye cream for night use.

Whipped: Get Smooth in a Fun and Sweet way

When I first heard of Whipped, I thought it has something to do with desserts (like whipped cream lol). Well, the Whipped I encountered a few days back was surely related to something sweet. Whipped is the actually the latest sugar wax and body scrub salon in Manila. This place offers the most fun and sweetest way to get rid of unwanted hair in an instant!

As I have mentioned, I previously visited Whipped's main branch at Ayala Fairview Terraces. Their place is quite an attraction because of their pastel themed salon. Every detail of the salon was well thought of and the colors simply exude fun and sweet. Their Fairview branch is spacious as well. There are 4 separate cubicles where their waxing and scrubbing services are done. They also have a waiting area for companions. What I love most about their place is that it was very clean. As you all know, hygiene is the one of the most important factors to consider when it comes to hair removal treatments.

The Face Shop Jeju Aloe 99% Fresh Soothing Gel Review

A few months back, I started taking facial skincare seriously. It started with sunblocks, then day and night moisturizers, then eye creams and gels, although I am still looking forward to adding masks, toners, or scrubs in my skincare routine. Prior to trying out The Face Shop Jeju Aloe 99% Fresh Soothing Gel, I was using a cream based day moisturizer but I find it too thick for Manila's boiling weather. After seeing good feedback about aloe gels in general, I finally decided to get one. I was planning to buy an Aloe Vera Gel in a tub container from Althea and actually regretted not getting one. Luckily I went to a The Face Shop stall at Century City Mall and found out that they have it in a tube container. It has the same amount of contents and has the same price of P199 for a 300ml tube/tub.

The Face Shop Jeju Aloe 99% Fresh Soothing Gel Review

I am not really particular when it comes to the skin care products that I put in my face, that is, I don't really pay attention to the brand. As long as it keeps my skin clear and it is affordable, I am willing to give it a try. I didn't have high expectations with The Face Shop Jeju Aloe 99% Fresh Soothing Gel but it definitely amazed me! As regards the price, each tube/tub is affordable! Since I only use it on my face and a little amount of product goes a long way, I think one tube could last at least half a year. No need to worry about the product expiring quickly because I got mine this year and it is due to expire on 2018.

Luxuriate in Premium Polish at Kitchenails

There's nothing better to cap off a long week than to spend some me time at a nail salon! And to end my week, I paid Kitchenails Trinoma a visit for a much needed mani + pedi session. It's only been a few weeks since I last went there, but I have noticed many changes. Aside from the increase in the number of servers, the "kitchen" now looks complete with that adorable refrigerator containing nail polishes inside. Lastly, I have noticed that they now offer more choices when it comes to nail polish.

Yep, that's a refrigerator.

In my opinion, what sets Kitchenails apart from other nail salons, aside from being a concept nail salon, is their affordability. I was surprised to found out that the Basic color Manicure and Pedicure at Kitchenails cost only P305 (P145 and P160, respectively). These services comes with a soak, cleaning, and polishing of the nails. They currently have a wide selection of L.A. Colors nail polish to go with the basic package.

But more than pampering and relaxing yourself, having your nails done is something you could do to feel glam and fab! Thus, I suggest you treat yourself to an dessert upsize, that is, a premium polish. I was definitely impressed with their premium polish selection as they currently have Orly, Ruby Wing, Morgan Taylor, Zoya, Essie, among others. By availing of premium polishes, you just have to add P60 for Manicure or Pedicure or P100 for both Manicure and Pedicure. And I believe that the upgrade is definitely worth it because of the numerous choices they offer and these are guaranteed to last longer than regular polish.

Orly and Essie nail polishes

Color changing Ruby Wing polishes!

Anyway, I was able to try out their premium polish during my last visit. The procedure was pretty much like the Chef Specials Hand Spa I tried before but less the scrub, mask, and massage. First off, my feet were soaked in a pan. I still find this interesting and kind of weird because I use a similar looking pan at home lol! After that, my previous nail polish was removed and my nails were buffed to even them out. Cleaning then commenced by using a marinade injection to put on cuticle gel. My nails were trimmed and filed and the cuticles and sides were removed. Lastly, nail polish was applied on my nails. I chose an Orly nail polish for both my hands and feet.

If you curious and want to try out this unique gourmet-style nail salon (I know you do!), better check them out at 3/F Trinoma Mall (near Power Mac Center / Mindanao Parking). They also have a branch at Alabang Town Center for those living in the South. Don't forget to check out their Facebook (www.facebook.com/kitchenails) and Instagram (@kitchenails) accounts.

Kitchenails Trinoma opening + Chef Specials Hand Spa Review

Nail salons are now literally everywhere in Metro Manila. And for some reason, they all seem the same to me. So when I learned about Kitchenails' opening at ATC, I got intrigued because of the unique experience it alleges to offer. And when it finally opened a branch at Trinoma (which is nearer my place), I got excited and thrilled to try it out myself. If you haven't heard of Kitchenails yet, it is basically a nail salon that offers awesome pampering and relaxation through delectable hand and foot spas, mani and pedis, and massages.

Natural Looks Soothing Cucumber Eye Gel Review

I've always had issues with my dark eye circles and eye bags since high school. I've probably tried a handful of eye creams that allegedly address my issues but none of them worked for me the way I wanted them to. I guess I become impatient after religiously putting on these products for days and not see results. My position regarding eye creams and gels became different when I started trying out Natural Looks Soothing Cucumber Eye Gel.

Natural Looks Philippines Soothing Cucumber Eye Gel Review

If you haven't heard of Natural Looks yet, it is a fragrance and skin care store which originated in London. They also carry skin care products, hair care products, scented Yankee candles, and products exclusively for men. Anyway during their launch last December, I was able to score this Soothing Cucumber Eye Gel along with their Summer Strawberry Body Scrub which I'll be reviewing in another post.

Wet and Wild Megalast Lip Color Review and Swatches

I've been using Wet and Wild Megalast Lipsticks for years now. For some reason, it's the only brand that fits my budget yet has a nice color selection and over-all performance. Anyway, during my mom's recent US trip, the only thing I asked her to get me was this. And I was surprised when she got back because there was a plastic bag filled with WNW lippies for me and my sister to choose from. I got 4 new shades and here's a quick review of the shades that I currently have:

Wet and Wild Megalast Lip Color Review and Swatches Pink Suga 900B, Sandstorm 913C, Wine Room 906D, Cherry Bomb 918D
Wet and Wild Megalast Lip Color Review and Swatches

Info about Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color from Wet n Wild's site:

Lips take center stage! This 4-hour, longwearing lip color leaves a semi-matte, crème finish in one stroke. Glides on easily with rich, velvety color that doesn't cake, feather, or bleed. Made with hydrating skin-care ingredients: Hyaluronic Microspheres provide extraordinary adhesion to lips, an exclusive polymer complex offers cushion-like feel and texture, and natural marine plant extracts Coenzyme Q10 and Vitamins A & E help smooth lips.

L to R: Pink Suga 900B, Sandstorm 913C, Wine Room 906D, Cherry Bomb 918D

This lipstick isn't exactly matte. It has a creamy texture when applied but it looks matte on the lips. I still use lip balm or petroleum jelly before applying the lip color to keep my lips moisturized. The color is very opaque even with just one swipe. I like to apply it generously so that the color would show off even better. A few hours after application, this lipstick tends to leave a stain which looks like lip tint. The pigmentation of the product is definitely great!

Wet and Wild Megalast Lip Color Review and Swatches Bare It All 902C, In The Flesh 912C, Mochalicious 914C

The two issues I had with this lip stick are the packaging and the price. The cap of the lipstick falls off easily! Thus, the lipstick itself tends to get damaged. It is a must to put this lipstick in a secure and compact space in your bag. I put mine in a zip lock inside my makeup kit. As regards the price, these lipstick only cost $2.99 at Walgreens or CVS. However, they are sold at double the price at the mall and some online retailers. I wish they would offer these lippies at the same price! Other then those mentioned, I think this product is definitely great, especially for everyday use.

Wet and Wild Megalast Lip Color Review and Swatches Pink Suga Bare It All In the Flesh Sandstorm

1. Pink Suga 900B - It has a very light nude color. I'm not sure what to feel about this color. It makes me look pale! I guess this shade will only work with tons of eye make up.

2. Bare It All 902C - It has a light nude, pink color. I have highly pigmented lips so this kind of makes my face look pale, as well. This would be a nice MLBB shade for fair skinned ladies.

3. In The Flesh 912C - This one has a medium pink, nude color. This is my favorite everyday lip color! At first I thought this would be a dull nude color, but it makes my lips look naturally pink and healthy.

4. Sandstorm 913C - This lippie has a orangey brown color. I use this one as my alternative everyday lipstick. This one's nice for a neutral look.

Wet and Wild Megalast Lip Color Review and Swatches Cherry Bomb Wine Room Mochalicious

5. Cherry Bomb 918D - A dark red color. Love this one to bits! And I've been using it as my go-to lipstick for events and sometimes for school.

6. Wine Room - This one has a medium pink color. It has a nice color but I find it too bright for me though. I only use a little amount as a tint.

7. Mochalicious 914B - It has a mocha brown color as the name suggests. Dark lip colors usually work for me well, but I find this one hard to pull off. But this is a great lip color if paired with the right make-up.

Which one's your fave WNW Megalast Lip Color shade? :)
