During my recent visit to Guam, I was so decided on visiting the beach. I felt like I was sun-deprived after spending too much time in school. We planned to go there during our second day but everyone else backed out. I still insisted on going there because I don't want to waste my time at the mall. And it was a great decision that I insisted.

Walk to the beach |
I remember visiting this place when we went here a few years back. But my recollection of the place was way different than my recent experience. I remember that I was the only one swimming then and the current was too strong that I didn't dare go far. But this time, when I finally saw the beach from afar I was ecstatic. You have no idea how giddy I was. While everyone else waited for me from the sidelines, I run to the water and finally got my dose of vitamin sea.
Sand's white, but not exactly powdery. But this place is extremely clean considering that it's a public beach. |
I love Ypao Beach. Although I haven't been to any other beach in Guam, even the ones by the hotel, I would have to say this is the best place to go to. First, entrance is free. You could just go there anytime of the day you want to. It also has its own bus stop. From our hotel, we just have to take a shuttle to get there. Also, it has its own changing rooms and showers. The showers are located outside so it's kind of hassle to remove all the sand from your body but the changing areas are super clean so I have no complains about that. I just get a proper shower whenever I get back to our hotel room.
Wedding photo shoot ongoing. Even the local photographers could speak Japanese! |
Clear waters!! |
The crowd at Ypao Beach is very diverse. It would usually be filled with Japanese or Korean tourists or sometimes even locals, especially Filipinos who are now living in Guam. The lifeguards are also very accommodating. They asked us if we want photos with the local police and it was awesome.
Picnic area! |
You may also occupy the covered picnic areas all over the park. It's definitely perfect for spending Sundays with family. There are several benches by the beach where you could leave your things. Otherwise, you may bring your own beach towel so that they'll be close by. If you are looking for sun, sand, sea, fun, culture, and more, you should definitely pay Ypao Beach a visit. Just bring your cutest bikini, a beach towel, lots of sunblock and water and you're good to go! Anyway, it's an open park and you need not spend a dime to enjoy it.
How to get to Ypao Beach and Park:
1. Via cab - Just ask the cab driver to bring you to Ypao. Cab fare depends on where you are from
2. Via shuttle - Take the Tumon Route - Southbound of the LamLam tours (Micronesia Mall to GPO) and get down at stop 9 (Ypao Beach Park stop). If you are riding a Northbound shuttle, you may get down at stop 14 (Across Pacific Island Club) and walk to Ypao Beach from there.
